Medium viscosity (100cPs) Ethyl Cyanoacrylate adhesive. The formulation is specifically developed for fast and powerful bonding to various materials, including porous materials.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

XF100 is specially formulated to bond most common plastics, rubbers, metals and other substrates with very strong adhesion. It is recommended for use on very tight fitting parts with smooth, even surfaces.

Polymerization rate depending on the substrate

The cure rate of cyanoacrylates varies depending on the substrates to be bonded. Acidic surfaces like paper and leather will have longer cure times than most plastics and rubbers. Some plastics with very low surface energies, such as polyethylene, polypropylene and Teflon®, require the use of a surface preparation agent.

Curing speed depending on the gap

Cyanoacrylates give the best results on parts with a tight fit (very small gap. The product must be applied in a very thin layer to achieve fast cure and strong adhesion. Excessive gaps will slow the cure rate. Cyanoacrylate Activators can be used to significantly increase cure rates.

Curing speed depending on environmental conditions

Cyanoacrylate adhesives require moisture on the substrate surface to initiate the polymerization mechanism. The polymerization rate decreases if the humidity is low. Low temperatures will also decrease the cure rate. All values for cure rate are tested at 21°C.

Curing rate depending on activator

Activators can be used with cyanoacrylates to accelerate the cure rate. Cure rates of less than 2 seconds can be achieved with most cyanoacrylates. The use of an activator can decrease the bond strength by up to 30%. Part testing is recommended to measure this effect.

TYPICAL ENVIRONMENTAL RESISTANCE

Heat resistance

Cyanoacrylate adhesives can be used up to a temperature of 90°C. At 90°C the bond strength will be about 70% of the bond strength at 21°C. The bond strength at 100°C is about 50% of the maximum bond strength at 21°C.

Thermal ageing

Cyanoacrylates retain more than 90% of their strength when heated to 80°C for 90 days and then tested at 21°C. If the bonded joint is heated to 100°C and then tested at 21°C, an adhesion strength of approximately 50% of the original adhesion strength is achieved.

Resistance to chemicals and solvents

Cyanoacrylates have excellent resistance to most oils and solvents, including motor oil, leaded gasoline, ethanol, propanol and Freon. Cyanoacrylates are not resistant to very high humidity or prolonged dampness.

REMOVAL OF POLYMERIZED CYANOACRYLATE

Cured Cyanoacrylate can be removed from most substrates, and parts can be disassembled using a release agent. Cyanoacrylate cannot be completely removed from fabrics.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Bonding occurs very quickly, so parts should be checked for proper alignment before bonding. Catalysts may be required if there are large gaps or porous surfaces. Some plastics may require the application of a primer. Make sure that the parts are clean, dry and free of oil and grease. The product is normally applied by hand from the bottle. Apply sparingly to a surface and press the parts together firmly until sufficient strength is achieved. As a general rule, use as little cyanoacrylate as possible; applying too much will result in a slow cure rate and lower bond strength.

STORAGE

Store in a cool area out of direct sunlight. Refrigeration at 5°C optimizes storage stability.
